The Rugby Paper: Talks begin to expand Top 14 to 16

Ironically, the image the subs at The Rugby Paper chose for this week’s French rugby page – and has not done well in the landscape-cropped online image – was of the spectacular try Nathaniel Hulleu didn’t score to win the match for Bordeaux, a minute ahead of the spectacular try he did score to win the match against Clermont.

Still a tremendous picture though, if you see the full one, so worth it for all that – and not the reason I’ve picked this to post here, as I lead this week’s column with plans up for discussion to expand the league to 16 teams.

Top 14 bosses are considering proposals to expand the league to 16 to offset estimated €73million losses from playing behind closed doors during the coronavirus pandemic.
